
Waterford GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee
Agnes McDermott is the dedicated Chair of the Waterford GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee. Bringing a wealth of experience from her professional background in workplace wellbeing, Agnes is passionate about fostering holistic health within the GAA community. Her expertise in creating supportive environments and promoting wellness initiatives is instrumental in guiding the committee’s efforts to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of players, volunteers, and supporters across Waterford GAA.

Seán McCarthy is the Vice Chair of the Waterford GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee along with representing Waterford on the Munster Council GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee. He is a member of Ballygunner GAA Club and is currently their Juvenile Committee Chairperson. Seán brings a wealth of experience to the committee having spent over forty years working with the Health Service Executive, specifically within the field of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. He has been consistent in his belief that sporting organisations and specifically the GAA can play an especially important role in supporting people in maintaining good Mental Health along with supporting people through difficult times.

Eoin Morrissey is a key committee member of the Waterford GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee, bringing a wealth of expertise to his role. In his capacity as Health and Wellbeing Coordinator for Waterford City and County Council, Eoin has been instrumental in developing and implementing numerous community wellbeing projects across the region. His extensive background in fostering local community wellbeing initiatives makes him an asset in promoting holistic wellbeing within the GAA community and beyond. Eoin is a member of the Erin’s Own GAA club and a qualified GAA referee.

Colman Power is an active player with Ballyduff Lower and a committed advocate for health and fitness within the GAA community. With a professional background in organic living, nutrition, and personal training, Colman brings a practical approach to supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of players and members. His passion for community, coupled with his ongoing involvement on the pitch, ensures he brings both lived experience and professional expertise to his role in promoting health and wellbeing across Waterford GAA.

John Hanlon is a member of Brickey Rangers GAA Club and Healthy Club Officer. John is GAA Liaison officer for Waterford /Wexford Samaritan/GAA Partnership and is a member of Waterford GAA Health & Wellbeing Committee. John works in Adult Day Services for Adults with an Intellectual Disability with Carriglea Cairde Services and enjoys connecting People with Community.

Patricia Holton is a committee member for Autism Friendly Waterford initiative, which was recently accredited and recognised as Ireland’s first Autism Friendly City . Patricia is also the Disability Rep for Waterford Sports Partnership and a keen advocate for health and Well been , hobbies include , Hiking , Swimming and playing Soccer.

Michelle Murtagh is a primary school teacher in Waterford City with five kids of my own. I’m also Healthy club officer in my own Club Mount Sion GAA and Camogie Club. I currently work in an autism classroom and enjoy working with children with a range of abilities and creative talents. As part of my role in Mount Sion we also run a “well kids for all” on Saturday afternoons to allow a smaller sensory friendly experience of Well Kids that all kids enjoy! It’s a pleasure to work within our club family and wider community and engage with new people regularly.

Ger Fogarty, originally from St. Rynagh’s Hurling Club in Banagher, County Offaly, is a dedicated member of the Gaelic games community. He relocated to Dungarvan, County Waterford in 2023.Currently, he’s actively involved in coaching hurling with the Déise Óg Development squads and serves as an intercounty umpire, working with Eoin Morrissey for intercounty football games. With a lifelong passion for Gaelic games, Ger has experience as a player, coach, and mentor for both his club and county teams. Now retired from his previous role as a social worker for the HSE, he contributes a wealth of experience to various committees.
