Great week of Gaelic Football Primary Schools Blitzes
The week before the mid term was indeed a busy week for schools across the county as our Games Development Coordinators ran Blitzes for 2nd/3rd class pupils across the county. We were delighted to have huge number across all regions taking part in the blitzes.
Across the county we 7 blitzes run by our GDC’s. The blitzes were Referees by TY students from the local Post Primary schools who have completed the ICGG/TY Course and Go Games Referee Course since September. The opportunity to referee and assist in running of blitzes is a great experience for the TY students and is a step for them on the coaching and refereeing pathway.
At all blitzes players from the schools were mixed and players got the opportunity to play a number of games with players from other schools in a fun environment where the emphasis was on skill development through the playing of games.
In total we had well over 700 children from 29 schools across Waterford who got the opportunity to play. For many this was the first experience of playing with their school and being mixed with players from other schools. The feedback from the players and teachers was very positive and we look forward to further blitzes during the remainder of the school year. These blitzes will compliment the work being done in all our Primary Schools by teachers, GDC’s and club/school coaches on a weekly basis.
