BALLYGUNNER CROWNED CHAMPIONS

October 05, 2014

Ballygunner had an easier than expected win over Mount Sion in today's J J Kavanagh & Sons senior hurling County Final in Walsh Park. Played in front of a crowd of 3,206 people the game never reached the level of intensity one would expect from a county final.
Ballygunner dominated the early stages and a Brian O Sullivan goal on 6 minutes set them on their way. O'Sullivan added another on 14 minutes. Mount Sion hung in there but were very dependent on frees for their scores.
Ballygunner held a 2 - 7 to o - 7 lead at half time and with Mount Sion having the wind at their backs for the second half it looked as if we would have a real contest.
However it was Ballygunner that upped the pace at the start of the half and while Mount Sion did have two goal chances the Ballygunner backs held firm.
Ballygunner forwards added another 11 points in the second half while at the other end of the field the Mount Sion forwards could only manage 2.
Final score - Ballygunner 2 - 16 Mount Sion 0 - 9
Ballygunner now meet Cratloe of Clare in the Munster Club Championship in Walsh Park on 26th October.
