A Weekend of Hurling Finals
A weekend of finals last weekend saw mixed fortune for all our western champions. On Friday evening saw Ballyduff Upper come up against a strong Clonea side in the Junior B Hurling Final which produced a high scoring game with the eastern champions coming out on top on a scoreline of Clonea 3.17 Ballyduff 3.12. The Junior C Hurling decider on Saturday saw Kilgobinet bring home the title with a hard fought and close encounter with a skillful Tramore team. Three points separated the sides at the end with the final score being Kilgobinet 1.14 Tramore 1.11. Later Saturday afternoon saw the eagerly awaited clash between Colligan and Tramore in The Junior A Hurling decider at the Fraher Field. Half time saw the men from the west trail by 2 points and on three occasions in the second half the sides were level as this game headed for an exciting finale. On 61 mins the eastern champions struck their 3rd goal of the game which saw them pull away to win on a scoreline Tramore 3.08 Colligan 0.13. Sunday afternoon saw the historical meeting of the two Ballyduff teams Upper and Lower in this year's Intermediate Hurling Final. What a game it turned out to be with 60 mins full of skill and free flowing hurling which produced 53 scores in total. A game which ebbed and flowed with both teams giving their all in an enthralling encounter. In the end, it was the men from the west who came out on top to regain senior status.
